Les MISÉRABLES
Listening Time: 2 Hours, 48 Minutes
Shortly before we started listening to Focus's production of Les Misérables, Riley and I watched Disney's version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (recently added to NetFlix).
Les Mis has long been a favorite story of mine and re-visiting Quasimodo as an adult, I was able to appreciate the story rather than focus on the talking gargoyles and brightly colored characters.
The themes in both stories were hard to miss...and they are some of my favorite themes: Mercy, Justice, and Redemption to name a few. (Pharisees and Self-Righteousness to name a couple more)
Realizing that both were written by Victor Hugo is just one example out of the myriad over the years of me learning right alongside my homeschoolers. I absolutely love it. (learning new things...being alongside my kids)
Victor Hugo is now on my Authors to Read list.
Once we finished the dramatization of Les Misérables, the kids had a new hero: Jean Val Jean and there was no choice but to watch as many movie adaptations as we can find.
Now to convince them that reading it in French is fun.
