Magnets, Trains and Bridges

In 'Inventions & Technology' we learned how trains-first coal, then steam engine- ushered America into the Industrial Revolution. We talked about technologies that were developed or improved to enable trains to go further, faster. We discussed bridge design and mag-lev trains.
 Then we experimented.

We played with neodymium magnets and iron oxide powder.

We built a mag-lev from a kit.
We used a bridge simulator and a pile of sticks and straws to build bridges.

We made magnetic slime and added glitter to mimic the night sky.
