Picture Dictionary
One of the most helpful tools for me learning to read was a child's picture dictionary, and so I can hardly pass one up. But THIS one I recently picked up @Goodwill is also signed by Shari & Lambchop! Maybe we should wear a puppet when we read this.
Wise Words
I remember this book fondly from my childhood. Mom used it for 'Under The Hickory-Nut Tree' club. I found a copy recently @Goodwill in Oconee. We will use it for memory work.

Radio Theatre: Bonhoeffer-The Cost of Freedom
BONHOEFFER: THE COST OF FREEDOM
Listening Time: 3 Hours
It has been said that the history we neglect to learn is the history we are destined to re-live. As we listened to the dramatization of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's story, the things that were recognizable in our own country's current events were off-putting and caused the light of solitary heroes such as Bonhoeffer to shine all the brighter.
We listen to these stories, we look at these lives, so that as history recycles, our students might have examples in bravery; seeds sown in hopes of a mighty harvest.

Radio Theatre: Les Misérables
Les MISÉRABLES
Listening Time: 2 Hours, 48 Minutes
Shortly before we started listening to Focus's production of Les Misérables, Riley and I watched Disney's version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (recently added to NetFlix).
Les Mis has long been a favorite story of mine and re-visiting Quasimodo as an adult, I was able to appreciate the story rather than focus on the talking gargoyles and brightly colored characters.
The themes in both stories were hard to miss...and they are some of my favorite themes: Mercy, Justice, and Redemption to name a few. (Pharisees and Self-Righteousness to name a couple more)
Realizing that both were written by Victor Hugo is just one example out of the myriad over the years of me learning right alongside my homeschoolers. I absolutely love it. (learning new things...being alongside my kids)
Victor Hugo is now on my Authors to Read list.
Once we finished the dramatization of Les Misérables, the kids had a new hero: Jean Val Jean and there was no choice but to watch as many movie adaptations as we can find.
Now to convince them that reading it in French is fun.

GRACE VICTORIOUS: The Story of William Wilberforce
Listening Time: 96 Minutes
The first album we listened to released serially by AiO club was Grace Victorious: The Story of William Wilberforce. Whodathunk the history of corrupt politics goes so far back, eh? Learn more about Wilberforce's bio here.
